This is a demand letter I sent to the South Park BID on December 14, 2018.  The goal is to have them cease and desist from three types of violations of the Brown Act, which is California's open meeting law.  First, they must stop holding meetings in a building entry to which is conditioned on showing an ID.  Second, the board of directors must stop voting on motions via email.  The Brown Act requires all actions to be taken in public meetings.  Finally, and most importantly, the board must...

These are selected emails from Los Angeles City Council member Mitch O'Farrell's private email account.  They were obtained by a citizen of Los Angeles via the California Public Records Act and subsequently made available to me.  In typical passive aggressive fashion the City produced these with the pages rotated in various random ways and a lot of blank pages interspersed.  The four original files supplied have 001 prepended to the filenames, so you can see this for yourself.  Also, for...

Paul Koretz introduced this motion in the Los Angeles City Council on December 5, 2018.  It requires City departments serving food to report back on whether vegan options are available and to make them available if not already.  It also requires the City Attorney to report back on the feasibility of a City ordinance requiring "large-scale entertainment venues" to serve at least one vegan protein option.

These are three gang injunctions obtained by the Los Angeles City Attorney's office in 2011 against putative members of the Grape Street Crips requiring them to stay away from Skid Row.  Gang injunctions are a favorite tool of the LA City Government to aid the gentrification process.  They're probably unconstitutional.  These were obtained by a citizen of Los Angeles via the California Public Records Act and subsequently made available to me.

These are emails from between January and May 2017 about homeless encampment issues in Skid Row.  These are important because they expose City tactics in encampment breaking and because they show the extent of cooperation between City officials and local commercial property owners.  E.g. encampments are targeted for cleanup specifically because the property owner wants to put up a fence to keep homeless people off the sidewalk.  These were obtained by a citizen of Los Angeles via the...

These are emails between the Hollywood Sunshine Coalition and Los Angeles City Council District 13 concerning a request that HSC made under the California Public Records Act on November 7, 2018.  CD13 seems unwilling to fulfill the request.  I will update this with further emails as I get my hands on them.  These emails were provided to me by the HSC along with permission to publish them.  Not that I need permission, by the way, since they are obviously public records themselves.
